General Questions
Why can't my client auto find the server?
With the PC client a client should find an active running server automatically, however this relies on a port being open on the Server and potentially the Client PC
Port 4024 TCP is needed for the Client to connect, and port 4024 UDP is needed for the server to broadcast itself to the clients, if you are using a firewall, these should be opened.
Where are my printer profiles?
In XF Printer Profiles have been removed and merged with the jobstyle. This makes things simpler for editing and allows for jobstyles to be imported/exported with all settings.
Can I run StudioRIP in a virtual machine?
Support for running in a virtual machine is limited, with relatively low demand and many virtualisation software on the market, it has not been possible to test with all configurations. But no issues have been seen so far. it is known that it works with Parallels and Virtual Box. In order to use StudioRIP in a virtualised environment, the Host system must be configured to still allow USB access to allow the dongle to work.
Will StudioRIP run under Windows 10?
The RIP will work under Windows 10. However some older drivers such as legacy SCSI based will require an older 32BIT OS
How can I move my configuration from one PC to another?
It is common for people to wish to upgrade ther RIP to a newer platform, StudioRIP has some tools for this using a custom installer, please read the relevant XF STB in he STB section
My client windows are all wrong up what can I do?
If you have moved the docker windows around so much and cannot easily get them back. shut down the client and from your StudioRIP data folder delete clientsettings.ini when you restart the windows will be in default locations.
I have a feature request
StudioRIP is driven by our users, if you have a request, please send to support@studiorip.co.uk we can't promise to add every feature, but we do look at every one and evaluate it for future versions.
When I RIP I get StudioRIP logo appearing, why?
The watermark appears when the RIP is running in demo mode, that happens for two reasons, one the dongle is not seen. You can check this by going to File > Show License it should have a dongle number at the bottom, if not check the dongle is plugged in correctly. Secondly if the dongle is plugged in, it is usually because a function in the RIP, such as Trapping, Inkduct, or a flexo tool is turned on, when it is not licenced.
Can I have more than one version installed?
Only one version of StudioRIP of any type can be install at any time.
The colours of the job are wrong, why?
The biggest reason for this is an embedded profile has been included in the job. Often this is a mistake, and while the colours may be wrong according to the user, they are correct according to the profile being used. The fix for this is to turn of the function in the PDF creating program or set the RIP to ignore the embedded profile. Edit the jobstyle > Separations > Advanced Tab > Set to ON the option : Disabled Embedded CIE Colour Spaces.
Where are my hotfolders located?
You can check by going to Tools menu > Server Options. The default location is usually : C:\ProgramData\StudioRIP\Hot folder\ on a new installation.
I have changed routers and now my clients can't send to the RIP?
This can happen if your StudioRIP pc is configured with a static IP Address and your clients are on DHCP. In smaller sites often the internet router acts as the DHCP server to all computers in a building, Different routers uses different ranges such as 192.168.0.xxx, or 192.168.1.xxx or 10.0.0.xxx. If you change routers and it uses a different range it can cause problems connecting to the RIP PCs (and also printers) until the static based machines have also been changed.
Can I use remote desktop protocol with StudioRIP?
With StudioRIP XF user are able to connect and start the RIP server via RDP. With the previous version this was not possible due to the older security control system.
Will StudioRIP run on Mac?
StudioRIP server is developed for Windows only, however there is a native Mac client that runs on 10.7 upwards. Some users do run under parallels on a Mac.
Why is my client on my laptop / Macs slow showing previews?
The most common reason for this is when the laptop or Mac device is using a WIFI connection. The preview system of the RIP uses large preview files, and while using WIFI does work users well get a better experience using a direct wired network connection.
Epson Inkjet Questions
Why does film come out with all colours?
By default of Epson Printers are configured as proofers being as they are composite devices. If you are printing for film or plates you will need to tell the RIP to print separations. Do this by open the job style an in the interpretation section make sure composite and contone options are turned off.
I have a Raster proof jobstyle setup why can I not use it?
The most common reason for this is when a Raster proof configuration has been imported or setup incorrectly. When creating a Raster proof a working jobstyle with resolution, LPI, calibration etc. is needed. The resolution set in interpretation section of the jobstyle of the Raster proof, must match the resolution of job that you require a Raster proof for otherwise the Raster p roof option will not be available.
The resolution for the Epson in a Raster proof is not set in the interpretation section in the jobstyle but Proof Color Management section.
Can I have more than one inkjet printer attached?
StudioRIP allows you to have more than one device attached, configured and outputting. However if outputting to multiple devices a higher spec PC may be needed.
Why don't you have built in profiles for proofing?
StudioRIP does not provide built in profiles for proofing, because we find the best way to get the best colour accuracy is to profile for each machine and paper stock.
Output / Device Questions
How can I select where my tiff files go?
There are different ways to export TIFF files, please read the XF STB located on the website.
Will the TIFF files frm StudioRIP with Kodak XPO tiff catcher?
Yes, the XPO software requires a tiny modification in the TIFF for it to me seen. This is set as standard in the TIFF files.
When I set negative or mirror print on a TIFF it does not seem to work, why?
By default StudioRIP adds a tiff tag in the TIFF to tell the Tiff catcher to reverse or make the output negative. Most tiff catchers work this way. Some however do not and the data in the TIFF needs to be negative or mirrored. To do this edit the jobstyle and view the saving TIFF section. At the bottom are two tick boxes for:
Use Photometric interpretation tag for negative and Use orientation tage for mirror
